Childhood Home Kirkwood

Second story is being added, can barely recognize the old place. Drove around the neighborhood, can't believe how many homes are being turned into McMansions.

Hike to Peak

Going to miss it here, visual feast. Trying to stay in shape, second hike in two days to Rollinsville Peak. Last hike tomorrow.

RATS......

And we thought we were feeding the cute little bunnies, lettuce and such. Chris opened the hood on our old Ford Truck to install a battery buddy, only to find lettuce and other bunny produce in the engine. Those dang pack rats. And Marcia had just sent a charming photo of mice like the ones we had in Park City that ate up our phone wiring, stored food in our boots and car. Deja Vu all over again... :(
Animal House, we need to evict these RATS.

Happy Trails at The Happy Trails

Nice little cafe in Nederland, had a nice breakfast here before hitting the trail. Last full day of adventures, September 16, 2015.

Happy Trails

Showing off our new T-shirts.

Caribou Mine

Last remnants of the town buildings.

Happy Trails Changes Flat Tire

Young guy who was testing out his new used Jeep had a bad flat. He received lots of advice and help from the HT club. Think he had too much weed and booze, he needed more after listening to us.
The road was so bad even he had to turn around and go back the same way we came.

Caribou Mine

Hiked around here for an hour or so.

Caribou Mine - Near Nederland

Caribou Mining area, after passing this area the road really deteriorated. Beautiful golden aspens.

Lovely Specimens

A few nice finds. After our hike, we tried our luck in Black Hawk, Gayle was a big winner at Z Casino, her first time gambling, she won $34, yipeeeeeee!

The Glory Hole

One of the best adventures yet for the Happy Trails Club. We made it to the Glory Hole, a gaping hole at the top of a mountain, riddled with mining shafts. It was reminiscent of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, pastel colors of the Glory Hole Walls were beautiful. Battery ran out on my camera........dang it!!
Anyway, the hole had a partial fence around it for safety reasons, sheer drop offs into the seriously deep hole. There was a gradual primitive road to the bottom of the hole, we hiked partway down. We did some investigation of the beautiful mineral display. there was so much to see we had a hard time tearing ourselves away. The guys were evaluating the numerous bullet casings all over the place, must have been war up there.
There was also an old truck with wonderful graffiti on it. So much to take in!

Heading Up to Glory

Spectacular day, aspens were "Glorious" at the Glory Hole Hike.

Nevadaville - Mining

Drove down the road a bit and noticed an unlocked gate to the old mining area. Also, no signs saying "Keep Out", so.......
