Some Fabulous News
Happened by the Queens Liquor Store and guess what - free Brewskies!!!! May have to drink it fast since it may have rusty caps. They have to get rid of it, the cops told them.....want them to take it to the dump. Probably so the cops can have it. We were hustling with some other wild Bahamians who arrived in a van - Jason showed up on his scooter, we were all scrambling and poor Gladys was beside herself trying to restore order.
Thus us the First day we have ventured out, flooding still on road at Swamp Thing. We are worried we will ruin our car. We are heading north for food. Hoping the mail boat came and also appreciating how right the guy was in Mosquito Coast about ice and refrigeration. Visited Dalia & Bertil on Sunday, who have a generator and were enjoying their gin and tonics. They have roof damage.
Every body is really upbeat, even the ones with tons of damage. (of course I haven't been too far south, only Galloway) Trying to help each other out. Roofers are in high demand, working away. Clarence Town and other places have set up hurricane relief centers, handing out water, food, clothes etc. So donations are definitely being used.
Yesterday I found a cooler wrapped in a black garbage bag washed up on the beach, loaded with stuff. Some spiffy sports caps and other goodies. There was also a huge junk of boat, sad to say it is probably the El Faro. Atil found part of a paddle with El Faro printed on it.
