Taylor Plantation - Tomb Observers

We found the tombs!!! Yesterday we took our neighbor there, water was at really high tide, up to my neck. I didn't take my camera.....but Sara did, will try and post her pictures. Somebody has done an amazing job of cleaning out all around the big building, with paths all through the grounds. There was a twisty, winding path down the hill, north of the building to the graveyard. It was actually quite a way from the house, maybe 800 feet or so.
There were two sarcophagus type graves (above ground) in excellent shape, one for a small child marked John Alexander Taylor. Could not read the date. The adult sized one was covered in lichens, couldn't make out the inscriptions. There were remnants of at least two more graves. The grave area had a small crumbling rock wall surrounding it.
We didn't stay very long because of the swarms of mosquitoes. Even though we had on long sleeves and pants they were still buzzing our heads. We made the trip in the morning before the skies opened up again. It will be interesting to investigate all the surrounding area. Goats seem to like the place too. Currently reading a fiction novel about an early Loyalist Plantation Settler, Winds from the Carolinas, by Robert Wilder. Expected to see them pop out at any moment from the ruins and tell their sad story, The place feels haunted. I'd rate this plantation as "Number 1" on the island!
