We made it!! Got up around 5 AM, had hopes of catching a sunrise, but forget that. It was all misty and foggy. Grabbed a couple of sandwiches and made it to the bus by 6AM. Was a short ride up a twisting, winding road. Road construction was going on, believe it is never ending. It has been raining a bit so lots mud.
We hiked to the Sun Gate which is the entrance to Machu Picchu from the Inca Trail. Met many people coming down who had hiked the trail. Believe you can hike from 50k or less on the trail. It was a killer hike just getting up to the Sun Gate, probably a 1500 foot gain over a mile or so. The views were amazing.

Inca Drawbridge
Photo where Chris is leaning on rail you can see the wooden planks perched against the sheer cliff walls. This was the first hike we did once we had arrived at MP. The path wound around the mountain, didn't want to trip and fall or else, good bye Charlie!
Proof We Were Here in Machu Picchu
Required photos, one shows the zig zag road we took up on the bus. Going up the driver couldn't go fast, not the case heading back! We met buses coming up the narrow road at least eight times, so one bus would have to back up to let the other pass by. Our driver cranked it up over 52 km/hr heading down, plus it was raining. I decided to buckle myself in and go with the bus in the event we went down the cliff.
People - All kinds
We're told we are on a slow day, yet the place was packed. The little boys in red and white uniforms were dashing every where, the nuns moved more slowly, like we did at the end of the day. We met an older Peruvian gentleman who had attended the Colorado School of Mines. We've met people from all over the world, not so many Americans.
Royal Tomb
Believe the tomb raider pictured below, (always wears the same clothes) removed the body, never found.
