We made it!! Got up around 5 AM, had hopes of catching a sunrise, but forget that. It was all misty and foggy. Grabbed a couple of sandwiches and made it to the bus by 6AM. Was a short ride up a twisting, winding road. Road construction was going on, believe it is never ending. It has been raining a bit so lots mud.
We hiked to the Sun Gate which is the entrance to Machu Picchu from the Inca Trail. Met many people coming down who had hiked the trail. Believe you can hike from 50k or less on the trail. It was a killer hike just getting up to the Sun Gate, probably a 1500 foot gain over a mile or so. The views were amazing.
