Acklins - We Arrived!!

We made it to Crooked Island around 7 PM, left there around 9PM. At this point I'm still optimistic about reaching Acklins in an hour or so. WRONG. Got to Acklins around 2AM. Since nobody was there to greet us we had to stay on the boat until 7AM. There were two options for accommodations - inside on the dining bench with a cushion (only long enough for one person to stretch out) or outside on a hard skinny wooden bench, or the floor. The problem with inside was they had the air conditioner cranked up to freezing. I stayed outside on my cardboard, covered up with my towel. Did go in around 6 AM. Finished one book during the night.
One bright spot was the cook, Mr. Wilson from Guyana. He made us toasted sandwiches in the evening and terrific scrambled eggs and toast for breakfast.
Once we got off the boat we were Thinking our torture time was over, boy were we fooled. We then had to wait for the mysterious "ride". The guy who was supposed to pick us up went fishing and sent a replacement ride. The sand flies were ferocious.
There was all kinds of hoopla going on with the mail boat arrival, tables set up for the actual mail pickup, customs, pallets coming and going off the boat, a regular free for all. Chris and I took a nap under a coconut palm and made the best of it. Eventually a guy named Sedie showed up around 11 (believe he ran out of gas on the way) to pick up stuff from the boat and us. James and Chris squeezed into the back of the pickup with all the packages from the boat and our gear. Sharie and I got to ride in the front.
