Bayburt to Uzungol

We weren't prepared for this nightmare. It took us around 2 hours to cover maybe 10 miles. Every time we thought it couldn't get worse it did. When pavement stopped shortly out of Bayburt we thought, "oh the road is just under construction" wrong. The road going up the mountain pass was dry, one lane dirt. Once we crested the mountain pass things went downhill (pun) it was a series of zig zags, sharp rocks, fording streams, sheer drop offs and barely room for one car, let alone for two. I have no idea what I would have done if I met another car. Fortunately we never encountered another car coming in the opposite direction. We finally saw another car when we were getting close to a town. A couple of guys in a high clearance SUV. Tried to keep up with them but they were too quick. Finally saw them at an area in the woods where a bunch of trees were cut down and they had to stop for a car in the road. Trees were laying almost upright along the side of the road. Guess the driver wasn't watching and he hit a huge log. He jumped out, surveyed the damage, jumped back in and drove on.
