Headed to Lyford Cay

On our long beach walk we finally came up against a serious rock drop-off that we couldn't handle - so we had to head inland a bit. We walked down a dirt road and followed this jungle path back to the beach. Only wish I could grow all these beautiful plants.

Back on the beach we marched on, we were getting fairly hot and sweaty, didn't have on swim suits or we would have jumped in. Continuing on a decision to stop was made for us when we encountered two pit bulls.....and they weren't wagging their tails. Fortunately we were right next to the road, West Bay Street, unfortunately there was a chain link fence with rusted razor wire separating us from the road. Chris grabbed a big stick that was conveniently laying on the ground (maybe someone else had experienced this problem??) he pointed the stick in the pit bull's face and proceeded to order me over the fence, like I'm Laura Croft or something. No way - so he hands me the stick and holds down the rusty wire and clambers over the wire. Now I'm trying to decide between tetanus and dog bite.....tough choice. The dog is edging closer, the other one is hanging back, so I jumped up on a concrete pillar with the razor wire and started breaking the rusty rotten wire while Chris held down enough of the wire to let me through. Was a small drop off, but landed successfully.

By now we are exhausted and decided to head back, hoping to catch a jitney. Of course there are none on this end of the island, much too chi-chi. So once again we trudged along heading back to Compass Point where we hoped to find transportation. A mile or so later a jitney finally showed up and took us back to Orange Hill. We checked into our room, rested a bit then met up with our friends for dinner at an Italian restaurant.
