Akrotiri Ruins - Santorini

Amazing preserved ruins because of the volcano eruption. This place even had toilets and sewer system. Excavation was only started in 1967. they built a shelter over the ruins and about 10 years ago it collapsed. A large tour group had just left. One man went back in for a last photo and unfortunately it was truly his last photo. The site was shut down for 8 years, only opened a couple of years ago with the new shelter protecting it. The winds of Santorini are very powerful, so the shelter helps protect the site as they excavate. Guide said only 3% of the site has been uncovered. They haven't found any skeletons yet.
